Heaven was one of Houston's main bars, from its opening
in August 1985 until it was closed by a fire in December 1997.
It was one of Charles Armstrong's stable of popular bars,
next door to JRs and across the street from the Mining Company.
At that location its replacement was South Beach, opening in June 2001.

Adding a history footnote here....and this is not any reflection
on Heaven, it could have happened anywhere. On July 4, 1991,
Paul Broussard and two friends had just left Heaven when
they were attached by ten youths set on gay-bashing. Broussard
died, erupting the community to action.

perhaps an inadvertent hint of things to come
