Montrose Area Pride
1996-1997

The Map, also known as Montrose Area Pride, was published by Barry Larson and Jim Cheek from November 1996 through August 1997. It was short in pages, by design, with only eight, with the center two being a pull-out map of GLBT bars, and a separate one for businesses. As for "content," it was definitely oriented to the social life of the gay community, news of the bar scene and social organizations, fundraisers, and coronations. To me one of its best
assets was the quality of the photos they published of people in the community...for a newsprint publication the quality was remarkable and they were of larger sizes than found in others. So, it provided a window into the community.
